Hey there! I've had your article bookmarked for over a year now. I shared it like crazy when I first read it, and had as many conversations as I could about it. It's really done a lot for me, and the temperance with which you approach the tool is admirable.

Thank you for moving it over here. I re-read it every now and then, so this helps me a lot. I'm eager to check out the changes :]

"Note that “tribalism” is more a thing that can describe the W/B philosophy than the thing."

It sounds like this is a part of the theory that you are not terribly sure of. I have been thinking about wb in combination and might have come up with another way to approach it, one that I think could come closer to what it essentially is: Conviction. The belief that I know better than you what is good or even what is good for you. It combines the way that white is oriented to general principles (by way of collectivity and cooperation) with black's capacity for singleminded ruthlessness. The question the agent asks would be something like: how do I advance the cause?

To work through your examples, this encompasses tribalism and political polarization, as it describes the in-group's unshakeable faith in itself; it also does a better job than tribalism of describing vigilantes like Rorschach or the Punisher, who I would say are oriented to a moral principle, not an in-group. And with Magneto, it captures how he often privileges the cause of mutant liberation over the lives of any given mutants. That kind of ruthlessness is, I think, a key aspect of a wb temperament. Which James Bond also shares.

Combined with blue, it describes the planned economy of a Soviet state; with red, the violent passion of a fascist rally; with green, the deeply held beliefs of a religious fundamentalist.

And I could go on but I think the gist is there. I hope it is useful, and if not that then at least interesting. I just found your take on WUBRG and I really love it. Thank you for working it out in this much detail.
